ferguson planter

I'm going to pick up a ferguson plow and the guy has a planter he also wants to sell. He sez it's in good shape and has plates. I ask him if it had a presser wheel because I couldn't see one in the photo and he couldn't remember. No fertilizer units. I'll take a look at while I'm there. My questions are what should I look for? what is the value? are any parts for this available anywhere.

Thanks, Kirk

I don't think it has presser wheels from what I can see. Buy it. It's a TO-41-B. I would think $200-300 wouldn't be to much. I stole this one for $75 which was his asking price. No one wanted it he said. Cost $100 to sandblast then painted it. Only deal I ever got on equipment. LOL

Have you ever planted corn with your planter. Any problems? I've always planted with a blade runner and presser wheel.

I've never used this planter. I have the other type Ferguson planter(Builder Name??)that I have used for years. I may try this one this year since it has different plates.

Look at Implements Photos on left and search Steve Bieberich and look at his implements. It shows yours as a L-DO-51. My planter shows to be different.

I looked at the planter yesterday. He wanted $300 for it. I passed on it without making an offer. It was used to plan Milo in kansas. Still had some milo seed in the hopper. No presser wheels

Not all of them had presser wheels or closer discs.

Jason--Picture of your planter is the other type I have but is on a cultivator frame. They never had presser wheels. It was build by Towner I was told. I use it. This type planter is very common in this part of Texas. It was very good for planting cotton. I still all the parts and plates for cotton.

I'm going to bet the fertilizer bins were an added option, so I wouldn't worry about them.
When these things were made, most every farm on the east coast had some sort of livestock, and manure was/still is the best fertilizer, buying it factory made from a store would have seemed like some sorta commie plot!
If you run across some bins, yeah take them home anyway.
