Located my GL1 lubricant and about to change the Hydraulic/trans oil. Is there a strainer or filter that I should clean or replace. And yes guys...my next investment is a manual! haha

No filter. Just drain and when refilling just add about 1/4 or so (transmission filler cap) and let it go to all three points. Then add more until full. It hold 8 gallons.

Ok...thanks for the info Miner!

I changed the trans/hyd oil in my 1957 TO35 last
summer. I got the old tractor out and plowed my
truck patches with it, about the hardest continuous
work it ever does any more. When finished I brought the tractor
straight to the shop an drained the oil, took hours
for it to all run out.

My lift system was working fine, so I did not do
anything, but just drain and refill with GL 1 90
weight mineral oil from NAPA.

However, now that we have cold weather, the GL 1 oil
gets thick and the lift take a few minutes to lift
the first time, after running a while, normal
operation.

Some just use 10w30 motor oil in the trans/hyd sump.

The manual said to use GL1 mineral oil 90 weight so
that is what I bought. It's non detergent oil, most
motor oils are detergent oil.

There are many schools of thought on the subject of
tractor trans/hyd oil on this forum.

I'm thinking some do have a filter on the
hydraulic pump.

The one pictured here shows a filter. I got this
off this site in the Ferguson parts. If you'll go
there, take a look at the picture. You should be
able to look/feel through the right inspection
cover and tell if yours has the round filter on
top of the pump.

Thanks for info. Mine is in middle of 165000 serial number so it looks like mine may be one without a filter but I will check for sure. Thanks again.

here is a pic of the pump I am referring to.

[qJust letting everyone know that I have a Massey Ferguson TO 35 which only has 2 drain plugs. On plug under the transmission and the other plug under the hydraulics for both the hydraulics and rear end differential I use Gl1 90 oil( aprox 32 ltrs total) which the original manual says to use. uote="maxwell99"](reply to post at 20:09:16 01/22/15) [/quote]
