Ferguson plow

Found a model POA or PAO-22 (can't remember should have written it down) disc plow, it is in good condition except for paint. Do these do a good job plowing and what would one be worth?

They plow very good if set correct. Most people years ago didn't take time to set it. People still like them. Tony M. bought this one and loves it. Price here is $400 -500 in good condition.. Have seen them advertised for $1000 if it sold. I wouldn't give it.

I love mine and I use it more often than my Ferguson moldboard plows. Believe it or not, worldwide the disc plow outsold the moldboard plow. If the scrapers are gone it wont plow very good. The scrapers are your moldboards on a disc plow. How you have them adjusted determines what kind of furrow it leaves. If the tailwheel is missing then leave it sitting. It is useless without the tailwheel. I have a couple of videos on youtube of me using mine. They are they best plow there is for corn fields....they never plug.

It looks better now than when Miner had it. A combination of sandy soil and Rustoleum! For some reason I can't upload a picture.
It doesn't so much roll the dirt over, as lift it up and let it drop. There is a you tube of ag students in India and they are going real fast with 4WD diesels and what looks like 4 foot discs, and the soil must be going nearly straight up 6 or 7 feet before falling to the side. I think they work better crumbling dry stuff than in sticky wet mud. I think the kids were just playing in the mud to make a funny video.
So they don't make award winning corduroy furrows, but do tear the place up.

Well if the price is about what you are happy with I would get it. I am looking for one my self. I do not know what the difference is as far as using the bent or straight. I am guessing it is what ever you get used to.

(quoted from post at 01:44:57 01/20/15) Yes it looks like that one Richard, it has the bent pipe instead of the straight one.

The bent pipe is a later Massey plow. It functions the same as the earlier straight beam plow. Maxwell on here has a bent beam plow and much like the rest of us he loves his plow.

Ferguson made a bent pipe also. The three bottom in picture has the Ferguson tag. Also MH had a bent pipe with MH tag(MH 64 I think). The 3 bottom Ferguson or MF ones I've seen are always with the bent pipe but you can add the third disk on any two bottom, that's what the holes in rear are for. I always look for the add on at auctions but have never seen one. Last picture of plow I couldn't find tag on at auction.

When I said that I should have clarified myself. I believe the bent beam came along after Massey had bought out Ferguson. Around the time of the bent beam is also when they changed the tail wheel from a leaf spring design to a coil spring design, and there were two coil spring designs.

as others have said, I like my MF64 disc plow, it does a good job.

The key to the proper operation of a disc plow: The rear disc guide blade must be in good condition, so it can bite into the furrow and keep the plow going straight.

my friend and I have two Ferguson disc plows, both required the rear disc guide blades be replaced.

I have a Dearborn with straight pipe and good tail
wheel and good original paint, and I would ask
$500 for mine if I put it up for sale. I think I
paid about 250 - 300 some years ago. Hope that
helps.

Ferguson wrench: I heard somewhere, that if you take
the disc plow frame tube end cap off. The factory
shipped a Ferguson wrench inside.

Anyone know if this is true?

I've been told the same story but I've never found one. I had one that had a large round axle inside for weight(I guess) and when I saw it through the hole I thought I had a wrench. LOL

if you need the plow wrench to take the end cap off it would not make much sense to put a wrench inside the tube?????????????????????????????
