Haven't posted on this forum in a decade or so.

Started fooling with my old TO-30 again after a long time idle and remembered I used to be a member of this site and posted a few things in the electrical section.

I'm retired now and will be following the forums again. Has the problem of 12 volt conversions running on after the switch is cut off been solved once and for all?

Hello FL I joined this site in 11-07 while I have been on this forum your question just now is the first time I remember hearing or seeing anything about this posted before and I do like to look through the archives. Very interesting.

Tractor still running with switch turned off was not an uncommon occurrence with Delco 3 wire alternator.

Problem is not with the alternator but with incomplete conversion. Run on is caused by power from the diode trio in the alternator feeding back from pin 1 of the plug, through the switch output and on to the coil.

Solution is to complete the conversion by installing some form of isolation between the ignition switch and pin 1 of the alternator plug.

This can be done with a diode, "idiot light", resistor, or switch with both run and auxiliary positions.

Yep, using a 1 wire 12 volt conversion without some kind of isolation lets the excited alternator feed back to the distributor. I used to make little diode adaptors with blade connectors so all you had to do is cut the wire to the distributor, crimp on some connectors, plug them in and no more run-on! I was just wondering if someone had found a cleaner way to cure the problem.
