Okay so you played septic. Ain't that fun? I did
mine 12 years ago on Memorial day weekend. Primo
price to suck it out.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,So, you cc'd the head or what?
The wife's 20 I believe is running the oversized '30
kit flat topped pistons. Now your making me wonder
if the liner kit from this site had the flat topped
or sished pistons? I remember them as being
oversized for the '20 application but the shape has
gotten foggy in my memory.

That's what I seem to remember. So now with flat top '30 pistons in a '20 block I could use a '30 head, No?
Oh Jason...You cc those heads yet?

I go play now. Not getting much of anything done, just trying to figure my next direction.

Not necessarily... It depends on who supplied the pistons. Right here is a pic straight from the Tisco catalog a year or so ago. When I was searching for pistons two years ago for my TO-20 all I could find at that time was the 3 5/16" dished pistons. That's why I ended up ordering pistons from Federal Mogul. I should add that the pistons supplied by Sparex are now flat tops.

Next question about flat top pistons, do they come to the top of the sleeve, or "down in the hole" like some other gas engines do? That can make a big difference...

I will have to measure tomorrow. I'm sure they will be in the hole some, most pistons are. I did take this pic of an original Z120 piston with a Sparex piston and the wrist pin is thru both pistons. The compression height is the same on both pistons although it is hard to tell from the pic. The rings on the Sparex are located a little higher on the piston which does raise the compression slightly.

I haven't gotten to CC them yet but I did verify one thing. In an earlier thread someone had said something about how the center cam bearing is oiled. On the Z120 block it makes no difference which head is installed. The center cam bearing is oiled by a boss cast into the block which catches the oil as it runs off of the head down into the lifter galley. It makes no difference which head is used on the Z120 block for the center cam bearing oiling.
