Replacing rear main seal and transmission seal

Can anyone give me a couple of pointers on replacing the rear main seal and transmission seal? I've got the TED20 split and would like to replace these while I'm at it.

Also the is the remains of a paper gasket between the engine and transmission. I can't seem to find a replacement. Can I simply ignore it?

If you are talking about between the case flanges (.i.e the engine and the transmission bell mouth) then you can easily make one. Just place paper gasket material over the flange and use a ball peen hammer to tap the case out line. The hard corners on the case will cut a perfect gasket. Use the ball side of the hammer at the bolt holes to cut those.

This is a trick Sam showed me may years ago.
