wood splitter

if this has been asked before my apologies.

is a TO-35 a suitable machine for a 3pt log splitter?

thanks.

I would think the hydraulic volume would be to low.

It would have the power to bust the wood, but the ram moving out to the log and the trip back to home, would be very slow.

I do not think you would be satisfied with the ram speed.

I have a small wood splitter that has an 8 hp engine
And a 26 ton splitter ram. The pump moves the ram at a higher speed with no load, when the ram engages the wood, the pump shifts to a lower speed but higher pressure to bust the wood.

The ability of the two stage pump is what allows a small motor to have enough power to bust wood and still free travel at a speed that will not put you to sleep.

Be safe,

I have been splitting wood with a 3 point splitter on my TO 20 for about 40 years. I have 2 cylinders. One for down and much faster one for up. I work alone and can keep fairly busy. 4 inch cyl for the down stroke. If you are young and have help it won’t keep you fully employed.

I'm sure you could run one like the unicorn pictured on my ford 2n.
As stated probably too slow to run off tractor hydraulics unless you pick up the speed with a front pump or pto pump.

They're not as bad as they look. Kind of like the cordwood saw you just have to be careful and use some common sense.

another advantage of the trailer splitter is that it allows you to have your tractor free to drag up, lift up logs or move a trailer load of split wood.

a splitter mounted on the tractor would use a lot more fuel if your tractor is anything like my little TO-35 Ferguson.

for my best results on my 35 I bought a pto pump that came off of a loader. Only need to run the tractor at half throttle and can split anything I can lift, crotches, stumps etc. Much better than the tractor hydraulics, and nothing ever gets stuck half way through now.

neat and thanks!

I am thinking a vertical exhaust is almost mandatory for that set-up ?????
