Might have done something stupid

I am familiar with fords but ran across a Massey that I am now committed to. It is red and silver and says 35 on the side. It has been kept inside and am told it is in running condition but did not have time to try it. It has a 4 cyl z134 and has a separate hood in the middle lengthwise of essentially the other hood. Rear tires are ok at best but I have a nice set sitting loose. Tin looks really good with no dents as does the paint. It has a two stage clutch by feel and a large mf labeled bucket seat. Exhaust is vertical and paint might be original. All good until I saw that it has multi power. I went through the archives here and am now a bit nervous. Does it sound like a 35 or a to35?
I committed at 1700 and will post pics when I get it. I knew I was taking a risk but it looked very original. The owner had passed away. I made an offer as there were other people waiting to look at it. I know I should have tested it but they did not have a battery and I am in retail.
Thanks.
Jason
How scared should I be of the multipower?

We have had a 35 with multi-power for 13 years with no problems, I mostly keep it in low unless I need engine braking or want to go faster on the road. I wouldn't panic yet, it may be fine.

Yeah I am gun shy of multi power too, someday I will take one apart and see what makes it go, then I will decide if I want another or not. Most people love it.
The FENA website and YT on the left column have photo galleries to check out. You'll like it.
17 is kinda of a top dollar for a non running pig in a poke, but I think you will be OK...

It sounds like a really good deal. Multi power is nothing to be scared of. Once you own a tractor and use it you will wish they all had it. Just remember, if you are going down hill always put it in high multi power first. Plus multi power gives you the hill hold feature. If you are in high multi power and you are going up hill, you can mash the clutch half way in and the tractor will not roll backwards. You never have to touch the brakes. Generally if the tractor has been well maintained, and it sounds like this one has, then the multipower should be in good shape. Im saying it sounds like it has been taken care of because it was in the dry and not beat up and has good paint. That says a lot. Even if the multi power didn't work $1700.00 is a good deal for a later MF 35. Around here a good MF 35 goes for $2800.00 to $3800.00 with $2800.00 being one that is a little rough. The continental Z134 is a very popular engine and all parts are available. The MF 35 will also have the upgraded hydraulic pump with more lift capacity than the earlier TO-35's. Parts availability is very good for a MF 35. Post the serial number and we can tell you exactly what year it is.

One other question. When looking at pics online it looks like there are some grill differences. Some look very rounded but maybe this is just the English version or something or all grills the same on the 35?

I have 2 35's with the english hood and it has a 4 cyl. standard motors petrol. Never seen a mf35 with english hood.Is this your hood?

That is what I am calling the rounded style with flat bars. I thought I saw another style that the bars were angled some. Maybe I was looking at a pic of a to35. I just remember checking and seeing that it was in good shape. Do all 35 grills look like your pic?
Thanks for the help.

What 2tractors is showing you is the English made FE 35. All TO-35's and later MF 35's had this style grill.

Multipower only affects ground speed and engine braking/freewheeling. PTO only changes if you have it in ground driven mode(lever down), which is only used for rakes, planters and such. If you have it in engine driven PTO (lever up) PTO is not affected at least on models with a two stage clutch.

you should be fine with that price, it more then I would have give for it. being that you did not here it run. but you could turn around and get your money back enjoy

I'm probably wrong but i never knew the " Multipower" came with the Z134 gas engine. Does it have the Diesel engine? I always liked the Multipower , i wish i had it in my TO35 gas.
