I've been on this site for a while now and I see some of the same questions coming up from time to time. Also I can tell you the search function does not always work well. I've found the Google search turns up redirects back to this site better than the search function of the site.

Does this site/forum have a stickies section where on can find/look for answers to commonly asked questions?

The information or answer to a question is generally here somewhere the finding can be difficult at times. For instance Jason created a thread with a number of service parts and others have added more to the thread, good information that people can use to keep these things running. I've not been able to find it again, maybe I'm not structuring the search question correctly

Just a thought.

And of by the way, Happy Thanksgiving !

Actually I have wished they would do that for a long time for all the boards on here. Although they may not want to do the list I made since that list is for local parts stores and they sell parts on here. Actually I now have a bigger list that contains seal numbers and such but i dont know if I will post it or not. Here is the link to the original page.

I agree. In modern view go to profile if you know
who posted and then you can view all post from that
person.Happy Thanksgiving

Jason whether you post up your list is entirely up to you. You've done the research, you've found what has worked for you. As I see it you aren't advertising, you are passing wisdom and information, isn't that what we are all doing here? We find something that works and share the knowledge.

For instance, transmission oil, a touchy subject at times but everyone has a choice. I've used 10W30 motor oil with good success, others have used NAPA GL, Tractor supply... the list goes on. Again, we are sharing personal experiences, good bad or indifferent. I'll be the first one to let people know [b:0537b4bee1]what didn't[/b:0537b4bee1] work, all part of the learning experience.

A number of other site I frequent do have sticky sections so the same questions aren't asked time and time again. I also use the heavy equipment section on this site. I have a John Deere Loader/crawler and in that section there is a person named Roy among others that is very knowledgeable them. When I was having issues with my clutch control valve I did a Google search on the subject and a number of returns lead me back to this site and his adjustment procedure. He must have answered 50 requests about the same subject. The procedure is in the manual but his explanation in more understandable in the real world. He sometimes gets annoyed when someone asks the same question about clutch control valve adjustment procedure issue which I understand because he has posted the procedure a number of times. Again my point is that if there was a stickies section a number of repeat questions could be alleviated.

Again just a thought.... Obviously you can see I must not have anything better to do today.. :)

I heartily agree!! Poor John from UK has answered
that oil question at least 50 times, and it keeps
coming back. I haven't seen him post for a while. I
figured he might have burned out, but I don't browse
here very often any more for the same reason, so he
might have answered and I didn't see it. Good post.

I posted this very question in the "Site Comments" section.

the response was:

"[i:0f16d693db]We can't do stickies because of the classic view of the forum, it doesn't support them. Next week, I'll be looking into adding that functionality to classic to work along with modern view's capability.

We do have our article archives shown in the menu. Often most general questions are answered there, but not the very specific questions on different machines.

Yes, google's search works very well. If you type "yesterdaystractors.com: search term", it's amazing what it finds. Our search does work, but how you form the search terms is crucial. Somewhere in the process is some instruction on how you can form the search to be more specific and not get false returns."[/i:0f16d693db]

I didn't dawn on me about the different views that his site offers ... as I responded it makes it more challenging...

So it looks like they are looking at it which I think will take a very good site and make it even better.

IrvIA, I think some of the more knowledgeable people who are or have contributed valuable information on this site tend to get worn out by people continuing to ask the same questions over and over again to the point that they don't want to contribute or take the time to answer a question that has been posted over and over again. I made mention of an individual in the in the crawler dozer section. His answers have helped me with my loader, there is also another that had posted a number of times about Roosa Injector pumps. I bought my loader and hadn't put 8 hrs on it when the injector pump suffered the "[i:0f16d693db]Mouse Turd[/i:0f16d693db]s" issue. I rebuilt my pump myself by following a number of his posts across a number of different sites. I also own a TO35 Diesel, the injector pump on that is a CAV but it is a Roosa designed pump and that is one of the reasons I bought the tractor. Most people who looked at it were afraid of the diesel. While most don't know the history of the 23C... most have found they aren't good starters and they tend to smoke. Some of that is because of the design, some is because of there age. Mine starts much better now but it still has some issues that I plan to address.

My point is that [i:0f16d693db][u:0f16d693db]I believe[/u:0f16d693db][/i:0f16d693db] these people have been worn out by answering the same question to the point of not even responding, and i can understand it. The thought is that if the person can't even take the time to search for the information needed why bother... It's like questions that are asked that a simple manual will/would provide.... I don't even want to start going in that direction.... I've bought the manuals but the answers to the questions aren't always clear.

So to sum it up, it looks like the addition of stickies is being considered at this time. That will make this very good site even better.

My two cents worth:

Bullseye! A better search process through "stickies" or sub-forum topics would help a lot. I will have to commend the experts on this forum for their patience explaining things repeatedly. Too many other sites - especially car sites - have some really combative posters that think their view of the world is the only one worth considering and they can get downright nasty in their responses. This site has less of that than any other site I have visited so Thank You all.

If we can't have sticky thread, how about an alternative.

We could start a thread about transmission/hydraulic oil, with the understanding that we all get to have our input, and it will be a "reference" thread.

Then when people show up and ask about the subject we can just give them a link to that thread.

I certainly understand the combative nature some people take on certain questions... We are all here to learn something about equipment that in some cases is older than the people who own it.

As far as an alternative, what is it that you might have in mind? I'm sure the administrators are receptive to seeing constructive alternatives.

I've seen the posts of Bruce (VA) in the 8N section where he has a link to his 75 Tips. That is certainly something to consider. I made mention to Jasons' post about parts sources that have worked for him and others as well.

Again the idea is to have a easy way to find the answers to general questions.

Lets see where the site administrators take this. I'm sure I'm not the only person that has inquired about this.

I sounds like you might have gotten some discussion
on this, at least. I guess I never use the modern
forum either, just got used to this one. All the
issues with technology I guess I hadn't thought of.
Maybe things will get worked out. Good work.
