After 45 years of working on engines, this is a first!!

Lately I have been asking a few questions here on YT relating to my 1955 Ferguson TO35 with a Z134 engine. And I have received good answers from the guys on YT. After several things happened I found out I needed another engine. I finally found one and shipped it from Indiana to Pa. I got her running yesterday and ran her for a few minutes and shut it down. This morning I fired up and she ran wonderful, after about five minutes I noticed a drop of oil on the floor under the distributor. I checked everything and I could not find the leak on the engine. After another half hour I noticed the 4, 1/8th inch holes on the block for the engine identification tag. (The block does not have a tag on it) The bottom left hole had some oil around it. I stuck a q-tip stick in the hole and pulled it out. Holy Cow the stick went in 1 and 1/2 inches, So I stuck it back in and fired her up again. Oil started dripping off of the stick. Now what are the odds of that happening? The other 3 holes were only about 1/2 inch deep. I am pretty sure that the hole is not in an oil passage or would shoot out not drip.
So I guess I will tap the hole for a small screw and seal it up.
I guess you are never too old to learn something new!

Makes me think that someone drilled the rivets out
to remove the ID tag to put the tag back on the original tractor after they swapped enignes and they drilled the first
hole all the way thru before they discovered they
only had to go about a 1/4" of an inch...
Just my thought.
At least that is the only thing wrong with the
engine. You have a good idea to tap it and put a
small bolt in it.
