Changing PTO To 1 3/8 Conversion & New Seals in Steering

My first time to change out a PTO shaft using a 1 3/8 conversion kit, and put new oil seals in the sides of the steering gear box of my 1951 TO20. Appreciate any info and diagrams you can send me to get the old Fergy in top condition. Can I put the seals in from the outside without taking the gear box out and taking apart? I found the seals at O'Reileys. Thanks

I changed a 1950 or so Fergy TEA to 13/8" in New
Zealand donkeys years ago. Simply put the Fergy nose
down a bank to run all the oil forward, undid the
bolts around the PTO bearing housing, Pulled the
whole assembly out, put the new one (supplied
complete with bearing, housing and seal, all
assembled). Then did up bolts and drove away. It
worked! and all my 13/8 driveshaft woes were over.
No more adapters to 11/8 shafts.

The PTO upgrade is easy as others stated. The steering seal
is different though. I read in a post a while ago that the seals
can be changed on the outside if you grind off the bump in the
arm casting by the shoulder. This will allow the seal to fit over
it, otherwise you will have to remove the steering box to do the
job.

Several years ago, someone on the forum suggested draining the steering box, and filling it with chassis grease to end the leaking of the seals. I tried this on two of my three Fergies, and found it to work very well. Of course, this means removing the gear box, but I was in there for something else anyway.
