Hi All

Ok i have my fergy in bits, waiting for a rebuild kit.
After reasearch and talking to people i have some questions.

I am looking at buying a kit from the US or england as they are cheaper than buying them here.

one place: anglo agriparts is in the UK.

I probably cannot buy kits from US as they are differnt engines?
Heard that some of the bare co stuff is not to good sometimes?

Anyone gone thru this and recomend a good place to buy from.
would like to buy from here, but these guys dont ship international.

Try these blokes , reasonable quality ,much cheaper than private imports and local as well .

I'm taking a guess you are in the Great Land Downunder?

A US engine kit will either be for a Continental engine, or if for a Standard engine the price with freight will be exorbitant.

In my opinion, none of the after market parts are anywhere near the original, genuine Ferguson quality. I prefer Sparex parts to BareCo, although we should support the local company. Sparex is now owned by the AGCO, the manufacturers of Massey Ferguson tractors.

Charles is correct, Wagga Tractor are good, as is MD Tractors & Machinery, Somerville, Victoria. MD Tractors and Machinery also have an EBay Store.

Gday bob. That should give it away!!

Thanks for that info. good to here that sparex quality is better than bar co,

I went off Sparex for very good reasons . When changing the bearing shells on my Grey and Gold I found that the supposedly new Sparex standard shells were a full one thousandth of an inch under the size of my already worn shells , these had more than 3000 hrs of work on them . Decent ones had to be sourced from a Vanguard restoration supplier in Melbourne . These were exactly the right size were copper backed and fixed the slight knock instantly . The Sparex shells had had my Gold one sounding like a Diesel !
I cut a Sparex oil filter in half to see why bits of filter material were ending up in the oil . I was horrified by the slap dash and substandard filter medium . A Bareco filter cut the same had one third more filtering medium and was made from durable components that didn't dissolve in oil !
Sparex might be owned by Agco but the parts it supplies must be examined carefully . They remain the supplier of many otherwise unavailable parts and as such should be encouraged to keep their quality up to acceptable standards . Without Sparex some parts may become unavailable , without quality control some of their parts are unusable .

Horses for courses PCP20us , I have also bought reasonable parts from Sparex , it just seems that it is the luck of the draw . One very worrying episode happened here in Victoria two years ago . A Sparex rebuild kit was used in a 1952 TED20 , everything went together as it should but there were a series of problems on start up . [b:3e660ebdc5]The final diagnosis was a hole in the cylinder sleeve ![/b:3e660ebdc5]
I would explore the kits from Bareco first , there is even a kit that supplies a new crank , completely negating the need for any machining .

I bought parts from both Sparex and BareCo. Neither quality is a scratch on original Ferguson parts.

I installed new Sparex timing chain, cam shaft and crank shaft gears. The new chain had more "slap" than the original chain! There is no chain tensioner in the Fergy engine, unlike the Triumph and Vanguard engines.

Oil pumps for the TE20 were also a problem for awhile , the clearances were greater new than those on completely knackered pumps . The pin holding the vane onto the shaft worked loose and after slipping a little shattered the pump entirely . Sparex again .

Hi Bob,
have you been in touch with MD Tractors lately?
They seem to have stopped replying to email, which was the way I used to order parts from them.

I'm soon going to need some gaskets, so I might just have to make the switch to this Wagga mob

MD are about ten minutes drive from me , I used to go directly to them to buy anything I needed . Some time ago they switched to an internet / e bay only sales model . Since then the customer service has dropped off dramatically .

Thanks for the reply, Charles! If only they replied to my email, I would at least know where I stand.

I used to go past there regularly, but not any more, so I'm not going to pop in on the off-chance that they have what I need.

I have just ordered some gaskets from Wagga Tractors. I'll see how that goes :)
