TEF20 Injection Pump - Paint or Not?

Hi all,

I'm currently putting my TEF20 back together after a complete front to back rebuild and I'm at the stage where I need to start painting parts before assembling further.

I've had the injection pump completely reconditioned and it looks fantastic so I'm wondering whether or not I should paint it with the rest of the engine?

Looking online there are examples painted and unpainted. My pump didn't appear to have any paint originally. I'm wondering which is correct. How did they come from the factory originally?

thanks

Alex

My vote is no. That is a precision device, not a purdy piece of cool tractor. I assume they were factory painted, because it seems they were painted on the assembly line after coming together- and probably started? But, as this paint starts to peal and decay... it might affect the motion of the linkages etc.
I purposely did not paint the bare al-oo- min-ee-um parts and pieces of the TEA20 I rebuilt earlier this year. I put a coat of clear over the recycled Hurricanes and Spitfires, just as a ??? conversation piece? But aluminum will last forever as is, and paint may get gummy and mess up the movement of a machine if not maintained. That injector pump is a fussy thing...

I would paint it to better protect it. The steel fittings will rust over time, and the aluminum parts will keep from dirt erosion I see at times on older repaired pumps that were not painted. Tony can recommend a good color.....

Thanks guys. That's one vote each way so far then!

Anyone know how they actually came originally?

Here's the pump as it looks post reconditioning - it would almost be a shame to paint it... the question is how will it look after a few years use!

Here's what the tractor looks like currently!

Now is a good time to rework the center freeze plug hole for a block heater. I used an air burr cutting tool to put a heater in my 23C for summer like starts in the wintertime.
