Adjust the clutch pressure plate??

I am just now bolting the new engine to the trans on my 55 Ferguson. After snugging two bolts to hold everything in place I pushed down on the clutch pedal. Nothing there!! no push back from the pressure plate. OK, new throw out brg, new clutch plate, now what is wrong??
I pulled the engine off the trans and everything looks good. I got the manual out and noticed that you can or should adjust the pressure plate.
Has anyone run into this problem or has anyone adjusted their pressure plate?

Did you check the pedal clamp on the release shaft, that will need adjustment too. Main thing on any pressure plate is all release levers are the same height.

Unless it's a dual disc clutch (don't think it was offered?) there is no adjustment. If it is a dual disc the manual tells how to set some clearances but that wouldn't keep it from having any spring resistance.

When you were tightening the pressure plate bolts, you should have felt spring resistance as the springs were being compressed.

Possibly if the disc is in backward it could have over compressed the springs. That would cause the release fingers to possibly retract too far... Don't know, never did it, something to check though.

Another possibility, if the old disc was worn thin, the clutch pedal would have been adjusted to compensate for the wear. It may now need to be adjusted back. If you still have the engine out try taking some measurements off the engine/bell housing mount surfaces, see where the release bearing is in relation to the fingers. It may just need the pedal adjusted.

Well I adjusted the 3 bolts on the pressure plate, that raised the fingers and solved the problem. Thanks for the help.
