The one on the left looks like my TO30 valve that failed but the one on the right doesn't look quite right either...

If you have a port a power and a 0-4000 psi gauge you could test each one they should open and relive pressure at 2800 psi or a little above. Was looking at relief valves on line basically they are just springs set at a certain pressure to open up when pressure exceeds the pressure then close when it goes back to the set pressure. If you pump it up to around 3000 and still holding pressure I would say its bad. Like wise if releasing at 2500 psi

The one on the left looks stuck open. Like ypop says, test them.

BTW, did you ever get an engine oil pressure reading?

not yet. got new elbows today but it was raining and tractor is outside. next week hopefully.

I would like to flush the engine. what do you think of using diesel fuel after I drain the oil from the engine. then run the engine for a couple of minutes with the DF in it then drain again.

I have no way to test the valves. I asked at a couple of "shops" but had no luck finding a shop that would/could test them.

No, can't recommend flushing the engine with diesel and starting it. Nothing to be gained, might even break loose too much sludge that is harmlessly stuck where it is.

If the oil is extremely black, or it's been contaminated with water might pour some diesel through with and not start it. But the best way to clean up a really dirty engine is to do extra oil changes until it cleans up.

From my observations, an engine that is healthy... Good rings, good fuel mixture, good air filter, proper thermostat, will stay clean, even with less than regular oil changes. Once the rings are leaking, they carbon up. Not a lot can be done but go in and fix it.
