eng. oil pressure

this latest TO-35 I bought has/had no oil pressure showing on the old gauge. I disconnected the oil line at the pump and with the eng. running oil comes out the tube. now should the oil be gushing from the tube as in oil faithful or just a steady stream, like a lazy creek. I can't connect the new pressure gauge as I buggered up the threads on the elbow.
thanks.

Years ago my Allis Chalmers would start and sound just fine every spring, with no oil pressure at all. But if you 'prime it' with a squirt can till the line was full, then screw the gauge back on, the pressure was fine all summer.
Experiences like this keep me from having a cow and tearing a machine all apart for fear of something being wrong...and it ain't. Did you check the hardware stores for that elbow yet???

I ordered two from local AGCO dealer. four bucks each and I hope they are the right ones. I also bought a tap but was unsuccessful at restoring the threads or I cross threaded the dern thing again as oil leaked from the elbow. an fyi: the tap size was 1/8" 27 NPT.

today was an unsuccessful day at tractor things.

1/8"??? woulda never guessed it was that small.
Yeah, I know... don't worry about it... ruining a $500 part is much worse, so just having wasted a nice day this time of year? that's the reason they invented beer....

if you have oil coming out of the line that goes to the gauge there is some pressure to move oil through the engine you can try thicker oil, and maybe change the oil a few time to help clean the inside of the engine or use sea foam and put it in in the oil to aid in the cleaning

Until you find a new fitting, you can screw the gauge directly into the block.

The volume of oil is not that important, it's the ability to build pressure that is important. The fact that it is flowing oil confirms the pump is working. Now if it will build pressure is the determining factor that all is well with the bearing clearances.

Have you checked the brake fitting assortment at the auto supply?
