I was told to put Styrofoam (one in. thick) under the genny to stop vibration. the genny sits on the floor of our shed at our mountain chalet.
any comments?
thanks.

I don't see how it would hurt. I would glue a piece of plywood over the foam or the generator pads may vibrate into the foam. I think it would definitely reduce some of the vibration

I do insulation for a living and the thicker the better, use extruded foam board which is stronger than foil faced. and the make a few type some that can be put on foundation walls and some that is made for under concrete that may work better for your application. You can also build a box around the unit to quiet it

I hang the smaller generator from the rafters with rope . Isolates all vibration and resonance . Cuts the perceived sound down by at least half .
