The actual words used aren't suitable for a family-oriented forum.
Started working on the motor, the plan was to fix the oil leaks and get it put together and running. Pulled the front cover and found this--

You know it ain't good when big steel balls fall out.
I've seen the parts priced anywhere from around $90 to almost $200 on the 'net. Is there any difference in the quality of the parts, or are they all made in India or the PRC and the price difference is based on the markup of the seller? Thanks for the help,

I've not noticed a difference in the ones I've seen. I would say they are all pretty much the same. The one from Agco might be of slightly better quality but it also costs $244.00

Look at the situation this way...

You found the problem while it is easy to fix.

And count your blessings that nothing ran through the gears!

You are going to drop the pan and get the rest out I hope?

Yep. The original plan was to replace seals & gaskets and stop the oil leaks. I hope the bottom end is OK, I'm gettin' tired of putting $$$$ and parts into this ol' tractor.

There is one on flea-bay for $60 + $7.50 shipping from a parted out tractor. Probally OEM.

Steiner Tractor parts is a good source also.

i share your concern to buy good quailty parts, its something i think about every time I get parts and heres what I figure. How much do you use this tractor? parts have to have some sort of quality to them no matter where they come from. If you put on 1000 hrs a year maybe spend for the better parts, if you only put 10 hrs on a year, I think the cheapo will work. Higher cost doesn't always mean better quality.

It appears your cam nut is in good order. Those are
sometimes problematic with coming loose and letting
the cam gear turn on the camshaft. The washer behind
it has a dent in it thats supposed to keep it from
turning but gets pushed flat. Something to look for
when changing the governor.

I should have said there's a key in the camshaft to the gear, but if the nut gets loose it will let the gear rattle back and forth and wear out the keyway and gear. My TO-20 did that far enough to be 2 teeth off.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the tip. I'm planning on checking all the parts thoroughly, I don't want to do any of this work again.
I figure if I use quality parts and do the job the way Harry F intended it to be done, the tractor may last another 60 years.
8) That's longer than I'm gonna be around. :p
