Replace Carter carb with M-S?

'55 TO-35 with the original Carter carb on it. Can it be replaced easily with a M-S? And if so, is the M-S easier to adjust? The Carter has the idle? screw on the backside next to the motor. Kinda a pain to adjust it when it's running and the manifold is hot.

Yes the Carter can be replaced with a Marvel Schebler. The Marvels are simple carbs. Easy to adjust but you may have to readjust your governor or possibly readjust the linkage.

I have better luck with the Zenith. That what I replaced my four 40's with. Just seem to run better. I buy used one when I see them. Also my TO 35 has one.

miner09 - does the Zenith drop right in on the 35 in place of the Carter?

I went and dropped new plugs in the other day, and still have a slow start. Looks like the carb needs work again. And since you can't get a complete rebuild kit for the Carters, I'm thinking it's time to change carbs all together. Never was able to dial the idle in quite right after the last rebuild. Probably because the idle screw isn't in the rebuild kit. Appears after 60 years, it's a tad worn.
