I finally used the ground speed PTO setting.

While bush hogging I went over a particullarly big bush and bounced the blades cross-wize and jammed them up against the brush guard stalling the PTO and tractor.

In the past I have raised the mower up and beat the blades apart....

Finally got smart. Put the PTO in ground speed, Backed-up powering the mower backwards and freed up the blades no problem.

This is the only time I've ever used the Ground speed PTO setting. I am sure this was not what it was designed for.

It was used for various implements. The hay rakes being one of them. If you use them in live pto it turns the rake reel too fast. I believe there were also some big carts that may of been fertilizer carts or something...I can't remember right off that used ground pto to power the wheels to assist the tractor in pulling the cart in muddy or slippery conditions.

Yeaahhh... I am keeping a jeep cj frame and axle to make a 'power assist' trailer. I guess the Russian army came up with that idea, and it seems the cat's pajamas when stuck in the north woods, against a tree stump... in the ice... 10 below and a stiff breeze... ohhhh
So Jeff... watcha got with the ground pto? A 35? Or did you find a 65? There are about 4 or 5 mf65's on Craigslist lately... they all want to live in Ohio... i'm going to have a heck of a time moving mine west... 5000 lb empty, and the lug ends are exactly 72 inches apart... bigger than a bread box...

We've used ours for raking too. Worked real good. Also used it to back out an auger on a post hole digger when we got it caught on a rock or root and couldn't lift it out. Jack one rear wheel up off the ground and put it in reverse. Comes right up out of the hole. I'm sure there are a few of you who have done that too.

My two workin' tractors are a TE-20 and a MF-65. I also have the TO-20 teardown, the back half of a TEA-20, Thank you for the pictures above, a yet to be started 1955 TO-35 restoration project, a TO-20 parts tractor and bit's and pieces of the afore mensioned TEA-20.

I knew about it's use with the rakes. I don't have one of them.

I do have a PHD, thus that tid-bit will be good to know if'n I get in a similar situation.
