Grounding issue

I was working on my TO-35 gas today,
seams like I have to work on the charging system from time to time. sand and clean the points in the voltage regulator.

I have bought #1 size battery cables for both + and - cables.

however I just noticed the ground wire goes from the battery and attaches to a hood sheet metal bolt located just in front of the dash, not to the frame of the tractor.

This seams rather cheap as most vehicles, the ground goes to the frame of the vehicle.

Question: should I get a new ground wire (longer) and ground the battery to some frame bolt?

Thanks for any input.

Yes, definitely. I think on both of mine I have them grounded to one of the bolts on the bell housing near the starter.

yes, if your buying cable do it right and ground to body nearest to starter. make sure everything thing is clean and shinny and if you can rub a little grease on so that keeps it from rusting

thanks for the input.

I always wondered why the ferguson engineers in their mighty wisdom grounded the electrical system in this manner.

I will find a bolt near the starter and buy a longer #1 size ground cable next week.

I wish I could buy one of the original delco remy voltage regulators.

my experience with the foreign made units. They just do not hold up very long.
