carter carb rebuild (to do or not to do)

I have done a few MS carbs in the past but never a carter. this one taken off a to-35 is all aluminum or white metal. either way the carb body and top is non magnetic.

the round gizmo in the middle is corroded/chewed up around the edges. is that a problem as I have not seen a replacement part anywhere.

also at the narrow end of the carb somebody used permatex along with the gasket to make a seal. I am thinking the carb may be warped ????

thanks.

Check it for warpage with a flat edge. The part you are talking about that is eat away is the venturi. I have seen lots of them run fine with venturis like that. I say rebuild it and try it. The most you are out is $15.00 and a little time. I will add that the rebuild kit I got for mine had an idle needle in it but it wasn't made like my original needle on the end so I reused my old one. Check yours carefully to see if they match or not. I will just ad that after rebuilding mine it runs great. I read a lot of horror stories about the Carter UT but I can't complain at all with mine.

the threads on the carb where the fuel line attaches are buggered up. I may bite the bullet and buy a reman. carb

The brass insert chewed up on the outside, where the screw driver fits, is ok like Jason says. If the thread on the intake is chewed up but doesn't leak, that's ok too....
Again like Jason said, buy a kit and try it, even for practice. A private trade school nowadays wants 25 an hour, so go do it. Even if you don't get lucky, you tried, and learned something in the process!
