Hydrolic pump re-build

1955 To-35 serial#149####?. I had to pull the top off and the left rear trumpet to replace the pto shaft brass bushing and needle bearing that came apart in the rear end. While I'm in this far, Ive decided to rebuild the pump. 2Questions, I want to put new valves and o-rings in it because I'm there. Should I put a new control valve in also and how do I seat the valves without the tool that is shown in the manual. I'll also replace the pressure relief. For the most part the pump inside looks good, but I did notice 1 valve was sticking. Its a early style pump. Also the lift cylinder is scored pretty good. Will a hone do a good enough job or do I need to replace it. I'm not exited about putting a small fortune in it. I can live with a little leak down. Its mostly used for mowing and a little driveway scraping. Any advise and help would be great. Thanks

The pump valves are the weak point in those pumps. Best take care of the problem now than later.

I would try honing the cylinder, see what happens. Probably buy some time.

Steve, in your experience what is the most likely failure of the valves? Is it wear, breaking, binding, or something else?

How do i seat the new valves in the pump without the "special tool" and what do i need l to look for to determine if the control valve needs to be replaced?
