TO20 Ferguson Governor Question

Is there a way to make sure no parts is bent or out of place behind the timing cover where the bumper spring hits the governor. I am not real sure how everything works with the governor. A picture that shows how the bumper spring works would maybe help. I just want to make sure there is nothing bent or out out place. Thanks Robert

On the end of the adjusting screw is a needle point like the main jet on a carb. It touch's the back side of a small piece of spring steel that in turn push's against the center of the cup on the governer assy. this keeps the governer from reacting when its not needed. There is not much adjustment to it. The only time I've used it is when the rpm of the motor wants to surge.

The only time the bumper screw should be touching the spring is if you have surging, otherwise it should not be touching it at all.

If you remove the linkage between the governor (where it comes out of the timing cover) and the vertical rod so that there is nothing connected to the governor lever, push the lever all the way rearward. It should come to a sudden stop with no springiness. If it seems springy try backing off the bumper screw.

I'm assuming you are having governor issues, maybe it would be better if you describe what's going on so we can better advise you.
