i got a 12 volt coil for my ignition system to eliminate the ballast resister, so I have one wire from alternator to ammeter from meter to battery side of starter switch/ relay on the tractor body under battery, then another from ammeter to ignition switch for power and then to the plus side of coil and no spark coming off center wire on coil that goes to distributor, I even use a piece of jumper and held the end to see if it bits me when the engine is turning. i tested both side of the coil with a test light and had power i thought it would have start or spark should have jumped to ground but nothing can someone give me some advise and thank you much

You may want to keep the ballast resistor in the circuit to prolong your points life, have you checked for power to the coil? You should have line voltage to the coil, and with your set-up line voltage to the dist. also.

I do have a 12 gauge wire ran from the one side of the ammeter to the toggle ignition switch then from the switch straight to the coil could the points and condenser be keeping the coil from sparking

"i tested both side of the coil with a test light and had power "

connect your test light to the wire that goes from - on coil to side of distributor.

With switch on, the light should glow with points open, go out when points close. If light does not go out you have a connection or contact problem somewhere in the points circuit.
