I can't seem to get these two levers adjusted the way the books say to.
help!

Don't worry too much about those adjustments. Just be sure everything is assembled correctly. You'll know when it's right, just keep moving the levers and watching what's going on.

The adjustment that matters is the nylok nut down below the oil level on the valve lever. That will be adjusted after everything is back together.
 
As I recall from the instructions I used you must have it upside down to properly make the adjustments. You will also need a small scale to perform the adjustment properly.
 
s19438 any thing with pictures is not boring! So keep posting picture of your progress! Plus they can help others that may have same problems!

while not saying so specifically the CD and the three manuals I have all show the adjustment being done on a upside down top cover. I guess I am too dense to pick up on that.

s19438, if you want my 2 cents if I were you I'd email John (UK) and ask him to send you the instructions on how to operate those two levers. I remember from a few years ago someone (maybe more) was having problems getting them adjusted correctly and John sent him his version of how to operate those levers and that person told John something like he should have written the instructions in the book as they worked wonderful doing it his way.
