MF65 Update (Need your advise -Clutch issue)

Ok so I went and picked up my friends 65 last night. He actually let me load it on my trailer and coming out of the farm it was on I gave him the slip and I was scot free to head to my place. Alas, I still went to his.

Anyway, the gas motor started like a top. Kicked right on and ran beautifully. We did find a receipt where the engine had been rebuilt in 1998.

The big issue that does need to be addressed is there is a clutch problem. I could not get the clutch disengaged. You can feel the gears hitting as you try to engage them.

I had to shut the engine off put it into gear, start it back up then slip the hi-low lever into gear to get it moving. This was fun when it rolled too far on the trailer and I had to stop the engine put it in reverse start it again to back up a couple of feet.

Same it true of the PTO. Also, I do not feel any resistance in the clutch pedal when I press it.

Soooo, ideas on what the real issue culd be? Clutch package rebuild needed, Linkage, other?

I did not look to see if the clutch housing drain was clear (cotter pin) nor did I take off the inspection plate.

Thanks for you input.

Also, the tractor is a 1962 or 1963 model. I did not memorize the full SN but it was 69x,xxx something.

NO pedal resistance at all? If you are lucky maybe the clutch linkage clamp is loose allowing loss of freeplay adjustment. Or worse the release bearing has failed long ago, wearing away the release lever bolts. Take the plate off the bottom and have a look. May be time for a split for clutch work.

Sometimes, alotta times, at an auction... the crowd knows what's up with each item. So her 'bargain' has a few hundred bucks and a few days more to 'invest'.

I do like my 65, still gun shy of that multipower, but I never needed full throttle to do any job I threw at it, hardest jobs were frozen stiff snowbanks, but it's unstoppable...

There are a few around here on Craigslist for a couple gees, but there's no more room at the inn....
