Object in the oil pan

Hello again,

I finally got around to rebuilding the engine on my TO-30. I am
waiting on a few parts but the head is completely redone valves
seats and springs. I just need the piston kit. When I took the oil pan
off I found this thing in the bottom that was broken apart metal. It
kind of looks like a fan about 4 inches wide. I can not find it any
ware in the parts book. Anyone know what this might be?

Thanks

Looks like a fan. 4 inches. Round I would suppose.
I would venture a guess at the center of the governor.

I concur, it does sound like part of the governor. Were there also a bunch of ball bearings in there?

It's doubtful it would be the prop from Harry's flying machine, or a rare TEO 25 cropduster, so yeah, it's what's left of the governor shell. There should be several steel ball bearings in there too..
Now you got a new job to do- get under the timing gear cover and see what's up, or missing? You got a manual?

Look something like this?

That's the remains of the governor on my TO20. :(

I have a parts book and a shop service manual. I think it must be the governor. The balls are all mashed up but I did find them. I just got a new governor kit because the old one was leaking and not working well. This explains a lot.

This is the pic. I would have not figured this one out with out posting here. I looked at all of the engine pictures in the parts book but I could not find anything that looked like this. Thanks again guys.
