plowing question

it's easy enough to pick up a CHEAP drag plow. that said I've plowed with 3pt never with a dragger. what would be the major differences/drawbacks in using a drag plow with one of my 35's???
thanks.

Traction, traction, traction. I years ago pulled a John Deere No. 52 2-12 in drag plow behind my Ferguson 30 and had it converted to use the Fergie's hydrolic to lift the plow. Worked good except for traction, if I stayed at half throttle or less I got by, over that it would start to spin out. Same plow as I had used on a 20 PTO HP 46 B John Deere. I had the belly mount after market drawbar on the Ferguson in short position and turned up. PTO combine used it in long position turned down.

Room. If you do a garden, say 100 by 100 with a 3 point now, and need a spot 120 by 105, you will need 105...by 250... with a hitch plow. One of Harry's selling points was ease of turning in tight spots, lots of his moviehouse info-mercials on you-tube, a new fergie and a 2 bottom plowing in a what looks like 20 by 20 fenced in garden plot. you wouldn't get the points leveled out with a 2 bottom pull plow in there. Never mind get out the same gate the same day. Even a horse tied to a walking plow would get irritated in a spot like that....
Doing a large field, 100's or thousands of feet in a straight line, another 100 feet at the ends to turn around, then a pull plow is cool, still useful, still a pain to adjust and keep going if you hit rocks, but far better than guiding a tree trunk pulled by a waterbuffalo..

I know what a disc is I know what a drag is I know what a plow is but can you tell me what a drag plow is? Never heard of that before.

you see Richard, Harry's competition wasn't as technically advanced into the 20th century as our dear little fergies. They designed tractors that pulled plows the same way as your grandpa hitched a plow to a team of horses... or my grandpa hitched a plow.. well... to my grandma... maybe that's when she made him buy a tractor...

I have pulled 2 x 14 JD Plow behind my Ferguson TO-30 many times. The last time I use it I was plowing a 10 year old Alfalfa Field. Talk about hard plowing!! Still handled it great in 1st gear!

I did have fluid in the rear tires! Bryce
