ferguson te-20

I am looking for a maintenace manual for a none mecanic.

Easy step by step manual to help in the basic maintenace of my tractor.

The problem is, I am not sure if a have a te-20 or a to-20.

My tractor has 2 handles for the hood, a one piece plate for the transmission with the oil check at the front of the motor on the left side.

I think my ferguson 8537 is a te-20 but I am not sure. What would be the best affordable maintenace manual? I have already bought a shop manual but it is to technical for me. I need someting simple.

Thank you and excuse my English.

Several ways to tell if it's a TE or TO.

If the top transmission cover is separate from the steering gear, its a TO. If they are one piece, it's a TE.

If the transmission case is aluminum, its a TE. Cast iron, it's a TO.

Can't help with a simpler manual... One tip, don't try to read it like a book! Take it one item at a time, whatever you need help with at the time. You'll figure it out, don't be afraid to ask questions, we'll be glad to walk you through it.

Robert, there's a great article on the Ferguson Enthusiasts website on Ferguson tractor identification. It discusses the items Steve mentioned, and many others.

Does your tractor have a nameplate where you found the "8537" number? If so, there should be a "TE" or "TO" on the plate. (Based on your description of the hood handles and the transmission, it sounds like a TE.)

The best [u:4766c8b11f]basic[/u:4766c8b11f] maintenance guide is probably the Owner's Manual, rather than the Shop Manual.

If it's a TO, you can see and print an Owner's Manual at the N Tractor Club. For a TE, you may have to do some searching online. (Sorry, but YT doesn't let me include links to the websites in this message.)

If you have an ENGLISH TEA FERGUSON try to track down PARTS CATRALOUGE FORM NO. 693 041 M2 (I purchased mine off E-BAY) You should also try to obtain the FERGUSON SERVICE MANUAL. I signed onto e-bay typed in TEA 20 FERGUSON SERVICE MANUAL.....sent the money to ENGLAND and my MANUAL was in western CANADA in 14 days.

The Ferguson TEA 20 Tractor. In 1947 the Continental power unit was replaced with a 24 h.p. engine which was based on the Standard Vanguard car engine, this version was known as the TEA 20. Demand for the tractor was such that double shift work was introduced in 1948 and production was increased to approximately 5,500 units per month.

From your description you have a Ferguson TE Tractor. The next step is to figure out which TE version you have.

On the left side of the motor is there an oil filter? Is the oil filler neck at the front or the rear of the engine?

What fuel do you use? Gas, diesal, Kerosine, TVO, other.

Assuming Gas Fuel.
If oil fill is at front you have a TE-20 with the cont. motor. I have a full set of shop service manuals for it I could get copies for you.

If the oil fill is at the rear and you have the external oil filter, you have the TEA-20 with either the 80mm or 85mm engine.

The oil fill is on the left side in front of the motor and it is a gas engine.

Regarding service manual, do you have one for the te-20 and is it available and comprehensive for a non mecanic guy?

Thank you

I think my ferguson 8537 is a te-20 but I am not sure.

You have a 1947 TE20 with Continental Z120 engine, made in the UK.

You may find the Gregories or Haynes Manuals easier to follow? They are less specific than the genuine factory manual.

Somewhere I have a booklet similar to an Owners Manual for my TEA20. It was an inexpensive reproduction, has a handful of pages only with the basic specifications, daily maintenance and lubrication guide, but I can't find my copy (haven't unpacked after the last move) nor can I find it on the Internet, but I'm sure it is there somewhere. It doesn't cover the TE20 Continental engine but there may be a similar booklet for your tractor?

I see Haynes produce an "Enthusiasts Manual" for your tractor and US built Fergys:

I've never seen one but I wonder whether it may be a simple version for basic maintenance?

Yes, the shop manuals I have are for the TE-20. They were written by Ferguson Inc. for the dealer"s service shop. So not specifically written for a owner. But they are 100% better than the I&T manuals. (i.e. the one Bob(Aust) posted a picture of)

Jeff.

E-mail is open if you want to contact me.

It is a gas engine, the oil filler neck is at the front and the starter coil is horizontal.

That why I think I have a real TE-20 without any letters following the TE.

I already have a shop manual (I & T FE-2). This book is not for me. I will not become a mecanic at my age. I am not in the restoration business. My tractor is used on my woodlot. The tractor runs well but like any machine it needs maintenance.

So I am looking for a step by step maintenance book to make sure my tractor continues to help me for a number of years.

Thank you very much for for reply.

have a nice day!

I have the I & T book FE-2 but it is to complicated for me. I do not want to restore my tractor. I use it on my woodlot.

Since I am not a mecanic and do not want to restore my tractor, I need a step by step book to help me with maintenance.

The tractor runs well except for the muffler and a need to change the hydraulic liquid.

I thank you for your reply and I hope you will have a nice day!

Since it seems you have an early TE-20 with the continental engine. There is not a whole lot of difference between it and a TO-20 as far as operation and maintainence. The brake adjustment is different but not much else. Search for the N tractor. club and go to their manual section. They have the operators manual for a TO-20 online for free. Very easy to understand manual.
