Transmission Fluid Leak

Check my transmission fluid on my T0-30 and it was really low. Looked underneath the tractor and there is a drain plug and there is also what looks like a cotter pin. The pin spins freely and it is where the leak is coming from. Does anyone know what this part is and can it be replaced fixed?

Thanks

Robert

Yes that is or should be a cotter pin. That is in there to jiggle around and keep that hole open so oil can leak out at that point. If it is not loose then oil can build up inside there from either the engine rear oil seal or the transmission front oil seal. If the oil would build up inside there it would likely get onto the clutch. As you know the clutch and oil are not friendly together. Every once in a while you should check that cotter pin just to make sure it is loose.

The oil dripping from the cottar pin is a symptom, not the cause. The front transmission seal is bad. Easy fix but does require splitting the tractor.

Thank you for the reply. Well looks like a little bit of work ahead of me. Just as I was about to finish my fencing. Was using the tractor/trailer to haul posts.

I think all my fergy's leak and if you park it on a slight incline you can save yourself alot of wrenching, besides there's no guarentee a new seal will fix it.
