Before and after 56 TO 35

After about 5 years is finally just about done

Good job:

Question on your alternator, is that a cable out the back that runs the tachometer?

If not, were you able to keep the tachometer operational using some other method?

I have a 1957 and someday the old generator is going south, just wanted to keep my options open as I would like to have an alternator and keep the tachometer.

Late MF 175 and 180 Diesels came with the alternator that had a tach drive. Allis Chalmers 190XT and 200 models did also, maybe a salvage yard can help you out.

Yes that is a tach drive alternator. Got sick of generators and regulators. Best money ever spent if you plow snow at night.

There are a couple things that arent original unfortunately- it had a later MF35 hood on it when I had gotten it. All serial number tags were long gone by a previous owner, but when stripping the 1/4" THICK BRUSHED ON LATEX HOUSE PAINT off I found the original green belly and grey dash and fenders. Since it has live power and power steering the best I can come up with for a year is a late 56 or very early 57 nust before the cream color 35's. If the one website is correct they didnt have any power steering until almost the red masseys. If anyone has any better ideas on how to pinpoint a year please let me know. As far as sheet metal and such goes I have done lots of swapping to massey parts just to get the thing looking nice again

So I'm going to ask Maxwell's next question before he gets here... Where did you get that alternator? Is it new?

I have a 56 to35 which should of been painted biege on sheet metal that came with PS. The original PS was shot, both housing, cylinder and guts but replaced with salvage unit and late model pump.

The green and gray were only painted on the early 56. First 4 or 5 months. Then they were painted beige. I have a very early 56 green and gray with power steering. Richard L has records(serial #'s) of when the power steering started. All 55 were green and gray.

Unfortunately for me both the engine and serial number tags were gone when I got my hands on it. The farmers that worked my parents ground have a 55 green and gray without power steering, but it does have the 2 stage clutch. Came with a 3 bottom plow new from the factory. I managed to get the old ferguson/detroit harvester 7-AEO sickle mower before the auction gobbled it up.

Miner,
Those headlight shields or covers, were they std or an option, they look good.

Very nice tractor

I have a 1957 model that was beige and gray, now it's red and gray. Mine has chrome headlight rings, so I guess those covers would have to be chrome for them to look right on my tractor.
