This is what happens when your tractor sits too long

Some of you may remember I bought that other TO-20 at a tractor show a few months back. It had set in a barn for many, many years. The engine was stuck naturally,so I took the head off after soaking the cylinders for a couple weeks with no progress on breaking it loose. I noticed the head gasket had turned to mush and had been leaking when I removed the head. Of course if the gasket leaks it will let coolant run down on the camshaft and lifters. I finally removed the engine yesterday to confirm my suspicions that it was more than the pistons being stuck. This is what happens when the head gasket leaks and the sleeve orings leak too.

Look up 'Indiana Jones' in the phone book. He got all the right tools to do the job. I think there's a shin bone from a terradactle stuck to the camshaft, and a brontasorus lower jaw welded to the wristpin....

Are you sure that didn't come from the wreck of the Titanic? That's some heavy damage there.

no no Inno. Too oily and clean to be Titanic... I'm betting on the Edmond Fitzgerald..
Where's my Gordon Lightfoot LP's??? Hey 40 years this November isn't it?

Tony I think I have a Gordon Lighfoot 8 track here that you can have next time your out this way...lol. I thought I would add an update on the motor. The crank I believe will be ok with just a cleaning and polish. It has already been turned .030. It must have been done many many years ago though because the bearings are marked Z120 .030! The bearings do not show any wear. My biggest concern is the cam journals in the block, but worse case scenario I can have the block bored and cam bearings installed. I have two extra camshafts I can use for this motor. I have another Z120 engine with a good camshaft and I also have a MF 35 engine with a good cam shaft. I do know they changed the camshaft in the 35's about three times so I don't know which one this one is. I will have to measure it I suppose. My preference would be to have the camshaft that was used in the Z129 and early Z134 engines because they have better valve timing to build more torque than the Z120 camshafts did.
