I believe that would be primer. I am in the finishing of a TO 30
and have used red primer though out. Plus easier to see
where to paint grey.

Yes the red was a primer it wore down to it on mine
too and I know it had never been painted since Dad
bought it new in "52 I painted it with expensive
paint that I got from NAPA and it looks like it did
when we got it.I have seen many that are darker gray
and have heard that there really wasn"t a set
formula it was what ever Harry could get the best
deal on when he needed paint.

Not true about the paint. The tractors were made in the UK by Standard Motors who bought the paint in the UK. Detroit bought their own in the USA. HF had nothing to do with day to day manufacturing of tractors, he did sales and development. The paint was purchased from the usual suppliers although there were more than one which would account for slight shade differences Grey is notoriously hard to match, there are so many similar shades
The Grey used on the TE series tractors was different to the TO20/30 tractors which was BASF no is 76806 and DuPont 652..Supposedly there was only one Ferguson grey but there were shade differences. MF in the UK supply a grey paint that is supposed to be correct to the original spec, its called Vintage Grey. Ford also used a darker grey from 39-48 that some called Ferguson Grey. We did a chart of the paints for the Ferguson Furrows magazine in November 2010..John(UK)[email protected]

I went to my local BASF jobber to get paint mixed for my TO-20. I used the paint codes that are listed on the FENA site. The first paint they mixed for me is on the left. I thought it was too light in color for what I remember. Most of the TO's that I have been around that have their original paint it is always faded to a blueish gray. So we went thru the codes and found one paint code that has blue mixed in it. That is the one I went with and it is in the can on the right.
