The lawnmower gas tank is still hooked up, so I can adjust the valves and re-torque the head, but otherwise, I'm about finished. Starts and runs well, and everything works like it should.

One thing: I filled the crankcase for a couple of months ago, and I've had the engine running a half dozen times over the last few weeks, for 15-20 minutes each time.

The last time, though, I started getting a small leak at the oil filter handhole gasket - what's up with that? (It was fine up 'til then.)

Thanks to all on the board for your help. I'd post a list of all the parts I replaced - but I really don't want to see it listed all in one place!

Bill, I used the Versa-Tech version of #97 Super Hi-Tack Gasket sealant, and I thought I had it whipped. I had also tried Indian Head Shellac, and Hi-Tack gasket sealant (the sticky red liquid stuff) with no luck, but I may not have let it dry long enough.

I'm going to change the oil and filter after a few hours, and I'll try the gasket again.

And, yes, I learned a lot: mainly, that I not going to work on another tractor!

You say:

"And, yes, I learned a lot: mainly, that I not going to work on another tractor! Shocked"

Just look what you learned, and accomplished, with this one!!!

Looking really nice!!!!!!

Thanks, Gary. That "new" carb is working great - I haven't touched the "tweekums"! (One thing I did learn: next time, I'll hook up the choke and throttle linkage, BEFORE I bolt the carb to the manifold - they'll be a lot easier to reach.)

Hope all is well with you and Les. Sending best wishes your way.

Great job, Tom. I bet you've learned a lot along the way that will help you in your other mechanical endeavors. :D
Did you use a RTV (silicone) sealant on the gasket? If so, did you allow it to completely dry before you added oil? I've found that any oil contamination on silicone will eventually leak. Although it's a PIA to clean it off, I use Permatex #2 or Hi Tack sealant, or Indian Head gasket shellac on my older stuff. It's old technology, but it works.

Thank you for the information about the paint. Another question if I may...My TO 20 does not have a radiator fan shroud, but in the picture I think I see one...I'm thinking mine is missing, was the fan shroud a factor issue item on these tractors? I can't say enough how nice of a job you did - really looks top notch.

PCP, those are 6.00-16 three-rib tires. I forget the brand, but it's something pretty generic.

Hey - that really looks nice. I have a TO 20 also, but it needs engine work. What brand / type of paint did you use and what was the code Numbers? I like the paint job / be nice if I could make mine look like this.

J, I used Van Sickle brand paint. I can buy it locally at Orscheln's, a farm supply store. The color is Gloss Ferguson Gray 476.

Don't look too close at my paint job, though!

Thanks, Del. I just put the hood on last night - the hood bumpers you sent worked great.
