I ordered a tiny rubber seal about the size of a quarter from here and received it in a 6by6 inch box with 9 bucks shipping. Why aren't small items just stuck in an envelope and mailed!

I have a theory - smaller packages get lost easier. Put it in a big box, less chance of the shipper losing it.

The box is trackable. An envelope is not. YT wants to know if it got there, and also wants proof that you did indeed recieve it.

If you've ever watched how the mail gets sorted (it is brutal), you would understand why a box is used.

I ordered two new 3 inch tachometers for my Sea Ray boat, from a supplier in Florida, for delivery to my home in Australia.

The two tachos weighed much less than one pound.

They came in a one foot x one foot x one foot cardboard carton, weighing four pounds and stuffed with pages from "[i:5381fed8e2]Florida Today[/i:5381fed8e2]" newspaper dated July 20, 2014. Interesting reading - houses in the USA are so cheap!

But the best part - picked up in Florida by FedEx on the afternoon of Monday August 4 (which was already Tuesday here in Australia) and delivered to my home in Australia Friday afternoon August 8.

It really doesn't get much better than that!!!

Many companies have contracts with UPS or FED EX and their contracts say product has a minimum box size in order to be contract approved so they use a larger box to meet the contract requirements in order to get cheaper shipping prices.

This same week I had to re order a ram head for a hyd. cyl. because the first one was defective so the company went from ups to usps when the shipping was on their nickel!

Yeah. I have found that USPS blue is cheaper then UPS brown. Up to 70 pounds and over sized. If possible to have a party meet the incoming freight, then Gray hound can be cheaper on large items.
Betch'a didn't know that one...

Bruce, are you saying those Grey dogs are still running around? Learn something new all the time!!! So many tour buses around I very seldom see Grey dogs.

I recently ordered some parts from "S's" that were not available from this site.10.90 for parts 12.79 for shipping.
I sent them an email and complained. they then sent the parts via USPS at half the postage of UPS. i complained as soon as I got the invoice and before the parts were shipped.
