the original castle nut took a 1 1/16 size socket. the new nut from AGCO uses a 15/16 socket. same thread size and it works. $1.00 ea.

Good, you found one!

The original, that measured 1 1/16, is what's referred to as a "heavy hex" nut. Used to be more common in the older equipment.

The original was 1 1/16" because Harry Ferguson wanted all the nuts and bolts to be either 11/16" or 1 1/16" so the Ferguson wrench would work on it. Just like he used special length bolts in a lot of places because he did not want more than one or two threads showing. Now everything is standardized.
