might call the MF dealer and as the head mechanic what he recommends.

after cleaning, be sure to add some oil back, run it through all systems then drain it out, may have to do this a couple of times, as you want all that cleaner material out of the trans/hyd sump before you add your new oil.

I used GL-1 oil from NAPA, but others use 10w30 detergent motor oil, use whatever you think best.

these old tractors are so old now, I do not think you are going to hurt the yellow metal in the transmission bearings with 10w30 detergent motor oil.

I understand in England they use 10w30 oil, but they can get non detergent oil, we cannot get that on this side of the pond.

non detergent oil lets the dirt particles drop to the bottom of the sump and be taken away when you change the oil.

detergent oil keeps the dirt particles suspended in the oil, so as the oil passes through the filter it is taken out.

this is my understand of how the oil works in these old trans/hyd units.

It won't hurt to wash it out. You can also reach
through the inspection covers with a small rag and
stir it around, wipe it out when done. Be sure to
let it drain for a while, takes some time for
everything to drain from the transmission and
differential cases. If you end up going in after the pump, while the top cover is off you can get better access to clean it out.

I must have missed a post... What's up with the
pressure? The lift not working?
