TO20 throttle rod

Is the rod supposed to have a alight "S" bend in it about 2" from the dashboard end, or should it be straight? I'd think it should be straight, but this ol' heap has had lots of weird stuff on it and done to it. Thanks for the help,
BillL

No bend in the throttle rod.

Durn, Del, that throttle rod in your pitcher won't work none too good with that piece missing out of the middle!

Seriously, Bill, I bet someone did a little "modification" on your throttle rod, so that the clamp (#24 in Del's diagram) would clear the battery. If I remember right, the Shop Manual mentions that as one of the points where the rod might bind or be interfered with.

Mine wasn't a problem, even with a bigger 12-volt battery, but I can see how it could be.

Side note: putting an "S" bend in that throttle rod wouldn't be easy!

As far as I am concerned I am sure they had that very small bend in it from the factory. If you would pull it down hard I think you will see it kinda bends around the steering column. I would leave it in there. I wish mine had that original little bend in it but I thought it got bent so I straightened it then looking at others I noticed they had that that bend in them also.

I should have said I was really thinking of the TO 30 I haven't looked at that many TO 20s to see if they were bent or not. I will look at more in 7 more days at the Northeast Indiana Steam and Gas Association Tractor Show in Lagrange, In. which runs Aug 7, 8, 9. See you there.

I don't see how it can hit the steering column. :?
I can see where it might hit the battery or battery tray. I left it bent for now and will do a trial fit this weekend to see if there's any interference.
I'll update my build thread too. There's been a good bit of progress since the last post. Ya'll are gonna fuss at me about the colors, but all gray was just too drab. :p

I'd love to attend a tractor show with a bunch of Fergies and meet some of ya'll, but since my son and his family moved to San Diego, all of my travel funds are going for plane tickets to the left coast. We have a new granddaughter out there we haven't seen yet and the older kids want to go on a whale watching excursion with us. It'll probably be more fun than a tractor show. 8) 8) 8)

When you posted this I thought you was talking about the throttle lever ABOVE the dash. That lever up above does have a very small "half moon" bend in it not an s bend. So now it sounds as you are talking about something behind the dash. Another one of those confusing talks about different items that turns out to be the same item in a different position. Who's confused? LOL

Guess I should have been more clear. I mean the part #26 in Del's picture, the long rod from the dash to the governor linkage.

In the parts list it just shows up as a straight screwed rod with adjustable ball joints at each end. They had a flat strip with a bend in it on some TEA20 tractors which could fit the TO20 tractors but I don't think that it was ever used in production..The one in the picture has only one ball joint, which is enough anyway.. It is Sparex part S42875 ......... John(UK).. [email protected]
