The serial number on my tractor is TEA201578.My question is what year model is the tractor? I know this may sound stupid but is the 20 part of the serial number or is it saying it is TEA 20 then the 1578 the actual number. Please help.

According to the serial# 1948 started with 20800,1949-77770,1950-116551,1951-167923,that # should be on the plate on the instrument panel.

What I am showing on my S/N sheet for 1951 is 167837--241335 and because the TEA 20 changed to 85mm engines at S/N 172501 that means you have the 85mm engine. The S/N tag should show TE A then 201578. The 20 in this case is part of the actual S/N not part of the model. To clarify you have a 1951 Ferguson TE A 20 with the 85mm Standard Motor Company Engine. Good find.

Steve.

TEA201578 is your tractor serial number. The "20" in the number has nothing to do with the model. My TEA20 has serial number TEA341439.

The TEA20 serial numbers for 1951 commence with TEA167837 and end with TEA241335, so your TEA201578 was produced around the middle of 1951.

If you want to be more precise - maybe planning a birthday for your tractor  - look at the right side of the transmission housing, below the seat and you should see the casting date, for example from my TEA20:

"6 7 3" = 6 July 1953.

The production date will be 10 to 14 days later, so you can plan your tractor's Birthday Party with some accuracy!

P.S. I may have misled you there. Your serial number is actually 201578. Various models were built within the serial numbers so you may find other than "TEA" - for example, prefixes may include TEF (diesel) or TED (kerosene).
