Bad mistake

Went to crank the 57 to35 today and since it had been sitting for a couple of weeks I thought there might be wasp on board so I shifted it to out of gear and felt it rock backwards then wiggled shifter and hit the button and away it went with me trying to stay away from the back tire. Skint up by legs with knots. And guess what after I got in seat and quit shaking then it was out of gas and wouldn't crank. To all, you would be surprised how fast this all happened. I've learned my lesson!!!!

My Dad did something like that. He got pulled under the tire and run over.

He was lucky and didn't get injured. Just some bruises.

Yep. that starter safety switch is the best feature put on a fergie. It is an easy thing to put back in action.... and I think tomorrow morning is a good time to get on it! Too darn hot in Georgia to do anything else anyway....
This TEA's gearshift switch is working again, but the turf 20's isn't wired... I think I will get on that this week too...

Never saw a 35 with the safety switch feature but ever who decided it was not needed must have went to work for GM.

It looks like a big plumbing plug, on the tranny case under the battery. Works off a third rod- third rail? from the tranny. When the shifter and hi/lo are in neutral, juice goes thru the wire to the solenoid- in gear? Cuts the circuit. Look in the YT parts page, they should have a picture. Not expensive, way cheaper than a trip to the hospital!!!!

On the 35 the short shift lever must be in neutral to start (unless it has been bypassed). This serves as a safety switch of sorts.

Ya know, neither one of mine are hooked up either........I think about it every time I start 'em. They all had 'em, most got disconnected over the years. The 35 I'm always in the seat, but the 202 sometimes I'll just reach in and fire it up 'cause I know I'll have to go around and pull the backhoe stabilizers up........should probably hook up the switches.

Yeah another mistake that came to me in the middle of the night. I was thinking of the to20 with the neutral switch with gear shifter. Only one of mine has wires attached an its not right. Thanks

Yep. My 65 went through the garage door two years ago. The wires were touching on the starter when I put the battery in. Wide open through the door luckily it ran out of fuel when it hit my truck. They start too good.

The gear shift doesn't have the safety switch. It works in conjunction with the safety switch though. The safety switch is on top of the bellhousing under the dash.
