TO-20 Headlight Question...

My TO-20 had but one headlight when I bought it, like this:

I can't see any name or logo on it. The tractor also had a rear worklight, and headlight wings, so I assume the light kit was original.

Is this an original, "correct" headlight? If so, I'll post in the appropriate forum to look for one that matches it.

All genuine Ferguson lighting kits are stamped C.M. Hall. There was a few differences. There are also the lights that used the W clips to retain the bulb and there was cast retaining rings and stamped retaining rings. With the stamped rings being used with the W clips. Since all Ferguson light systems was dealer installed it would be possible to get another brand of lamp on your tractor since it was up to them.

Tom as I see your light it looks as it has five rivets holding the mounting bracket to the housing. Any of the Hall Lamps I have seen only use four rivets and the mounting bolt is hollow so the light cord goes through the mounting bolt. It looks as yours has the light cord going in the middle of the back of the housing so I would say that is not a Hall Lamp. The lighting option was shipped to the dealers with three housings three bezels and three lights. Hall marked their housings with a diamond and the words Hall Lamp just about the same place as your rivet that is in the center of the other 4 rivets. Del what I have read the TO 20/30 used the same lights. There were two styles of lights or at least bezels and I do have three lights just like what you have pictured. Tom's bezel is different than yours and mine. It still could be a true Ferguson light but I have never seen one quite like it.

(quoted from post at 21:04:55 07/14/14) Tom how does your bezel get held onto your housing?
Richard, a single screw goes through the back of the housing, into that yoke on the bezel.

I looked at the Parts Book, and the headlight pictured in there uses two screws, through the front of the bezel, into the housing.

I'm beginning to think that headlight is a orphan of sorts.

(quoted from post at 19:27:52 07/14/14) Was the acorn nut on the light?
Yes, Miner, the acorn nut was on the light.

The mounting bolt is solid, not hollow, and, as noted, there's a hole in the housing for the wire to go through.

(quoted from post at 20:17:45 07/14/14) Tom, I was told these were Ferguson headlights but did not specify To-20 or To-30. I used them on the To-30.
Del, are those "vintage" lights, or reproductions?

Tom, as far as I know they are original. I got them off Craigslist from a lady that said they were in her out building for a lot of years. Her husband had taken them off his gray tractor many years before he sold it. She didn't know if it was a Ford or a Ferguson. They were rusted pretty bad so I had to re-work them. I re-painted them a lighter gray before mounting them on the TO-30.

I bought the headlights on my TEA20 from a Sparex Dealer in Australia.

Nothing stamped or written on then, not even "[i:9bea977975]Made in India by the lowest bidder[/i:9bea977975]" or other similarly accurate statement!

Del, your lights look like the ones pictured in the Parts Book. (My light does not.)

My worklight is correct, but it's too far gone to save.

If you go looking for original lights just make sure it has this stamp and has a bezel that is retained by two screws. If it has a clamp style bezel with one screw at the bottom it is a Ford light. Here is a shot of the lights I have that use the W clips to hold the bulb in.

Thanks, guys. Yes, Jeff, that's a great article - I printed a copy out a while back.

Jason, Sparex makes a light kit that I think is pretty close to the original that I may take a look at.

Stein*r has one with the "clamp" style bezel, that is marked "Tract-o-Lite". I remember those lights from driving Granddad's 8N, so I know that's a Ford light.
