changing fluid on my to-35. I am going to use 15/40 in crankcase. would I use same oil in oil bath for air cleaner or use single 20 or 30 weight oil?

thanks.

I'd use some of the old oil in the breather, incoming air filled with heavier debris doesn't know the difference.

The oil for the Engine (GAS) is SAE40 above 70 deg F and SAE30 between 40 deg and 70 deg F. For oil for the Air Cleaner use the same as the Engine....Use NEW oil not old oil as was suggested as some of it gets sucked into the engine and you don't want cruddy oil into the cylinders. Oil for transmission is 10W/30 all year round. If you use Multi-grade 15/40 as you suggested, if it hasn't had that oil in previously it will almost certainly start to burn oil as it will clean off all the carbon that is acting like piston rings.. You could use that oil in a new engine or one that has just been overhauled as it is a very good oil, but maybe too good in an older engine.. John(UK).. [email protected]

That's all I've ever used too .What rubbish that the air cleaner oil is sucked into the engine.... Do you have to add some every hour or day ? hahahah

I use diesel 15w40 shell rotella in my 1957 to35, it holds good oil pressure and does not use oil. rotella has the zinc additive, which is good for the older engines.

I just replaced my transmission/hydraulic oil this year with NAPA 90 weight mineral oil.

Old tractor runs and works good with this oil.

I use 30 weight in the oil bath cup.

I took the oil bath filter housing off last year and washed it out with kerosene, you would not believe how dirty it was.
