Started TO-20: Rocker Assembly Oiling Question...

I started the TO-20 today, after a year and a half or so. (Starts up and runs fine, now I need to get my Local Tractor Guy to help me set idle, check the timing, make sure valves are adjusted right, etc.)

After it's been running for a few minutes, I noticed that there's a lot of oil flowing and splashing around the rear 2-3 rockers, but not so much on the ones further forward - is this normal?

I've attached a photo of the rocker assembly that I took while the engine was running, but I'm not sure that you'll be able to see too much.

I had the rocker assembly rebuilt by a company that does nothing else, so I don't have any reason to suspect that it wasn't done correctly, but...

Thanks for your help.

If it's making it to #3 cylinder, it should make it
to all of them. The oil comes up the rear support
stand and inside the shaft from there. If it is
only coming around the #4 rockers, there could be a
problem, but if #3 is oiling, it's getting inside
the shaft and will eventually go to all of them.

Have you checked the oil pressure, if it is low it will cause that. If you have only run the engine at idle, that will be the reason, the oil pressure on these engines isn't very high so it will take a bit longer than you may be thinking.
If the pressure is ok then it should reach all the Rockers within a minute or so. The flow is restricted on purpose or if you had too much it would fill the Valve Cover too much and the it would get sucked down the Valve Guides.

Thanks, everyone.

2Tractors, I don't see any leaks at the end plugs.

John, I haven't run the engine much above idle yet: at higher RPMs, it sounds like the fan is hitting the shroud, so I need to check that out.

The oil pressure reads about 38 psi, BUT: it reads the same at all RPMs, (it always has), so I'm staring to doubt that the gauge is accurate.

I think I'll pick up a new oil pressure gauge.
