My TO-30 sometimes hangs up in gear, especially running a brush hog. Anyone have a similar problem or suggestion/solution? I broke the shifter last time I tried working it last time.

Are you aware that when the PTO is engaged it acts like a flywheel for the transmission?

Not sure what exactly is happening, but I suspect it has something to do with that.

In addition to having an Over-run clutch on the PTO of the Mower, are you running the mower too low and the blade is held from turning by the soil. The Blade should never touch the ground, it should be set so that it misses it completely and the back of the Hog should be set at least 2" higher than the front, this will help the cut grass to escape more quickly from under the mower and stop absorbing your Engine power..
Check that you have the correct free play in the Clutch pedal. When the tractor is hot, gently press the Clutch pedal and check the gap between the clutch pedal and the underside of the Footrest, the gap should be 1/4" make sure that it has this gap or the thrust bearing will be running all the time. Don't ride with your foot on the Clutch Pedal.. If the tractor judders as it starts moving when you release the Clutch Pedal, then you may have oil on the Clutch Plate and this could cause your problem.
