The original subject was "Source for steering box oil seals".

So bob you took the seal out and put the new one in without taking the steering box apart. I need to do this and just ordered the seals and would love to not take the box apart. could you email me pictures of the finished seals [email protected].
thanks

Are you referring to me?

You don't need to take the steering box apart. Simply grind off the stepped centering cast marks in the steering drop arms and the seals will slip over:

I have an "after" photo somewhere, showing the centering cast mark ground away but can't find it now.

I presume the TO-20 and TO-30 has the same drop arms as the TEA20?

I think John (UK) taught me that trick!

You will see that you can't pass the Oil seal over the shoulder on the Drop Arm, so you need to grind it off and then you can. It isn't used for anything, it was so they could machine it in manufacturing. John(UK)

Ford8NPower? and you admit to drivin' a Fergy '30?
Step up and pull the 8N hydrastics out of your Ford and drop 'em into the Fergy. More power and position control to boot!
I have a Donor 8N that is going to donate it's internals to such an undertaking.

If you do decide to grind the lugs off then save as much of the old seal as possible when removing them . Carefully cut the outer edge off and once the new seals are installed glue the cut tops of the old seals back onto the face of the new ones . This makes them almost indistinguishable from the originals .

NAPA carries it as a NOS 13027, O'Reilley's also can get them.

Yes I have to admit I am a true 8N man
but I came across the TO-30
a few years back and I have to admit its
as good as the 8N and in some ways better.
I would have enjoyed being able to chat with
Mr Ferguson .
