TEA-20 General Questions

Hi Guys,

Contemplating taking a look at a TEA-20 not too far from me. Never had a Fergie or MF before, but always liked the 30's & 35's.

Would use it primarily for mowing with a 4foot, possibly 5' brush hog between apple trees and such. I would use an over running clutch on the PTO like I do on my current tractor.

1st question - are parts o.k. to get for the TEA's in the U.S. From what I understand the only difference is the Standard engine vs the Conti, is that right?

Trying to find the mph's per gear. Found some stuff on tractordata and it seemed real fast, even in 1st gear. Makes me wonder if it's wrong, like 3.4 mph in 1st gear ?

Just curious how/why were the TE's or TEA's imported to the states?

Thanks

The TE/TEAs were brought to the states while the Ferguson TO factory was being built. I only have the TOs so I can't say much about getting TE parts. Others should be along shortly with the other info you requested. Richard

Parts for my fe are few and far between so I'm guessing same for the te unless your way up north.
As to using it to cut grass I'd find a good 2 stage 35 with position control. Nothing worse than looking back and finding your mower is a ft. off the ground for the last 3 rounds.

Well, Sparex and YT here cover quite a bit, but if you need something that isn't a 'consumable'? A better bet Canadian parts yards will more likely have TEA's than most places in the states. This is the tag above the dash on my 1955 TEA20, currently in a million pieces... tell ya one thing, they are well designed and well built. Like 2 tractors said, a live pto clutch model would be better to hog with

Four foot is about all a TEA will cope with if the grass is rough or long , especially if the engine is a little worn . Try high cuts first , it definitely won't cut long grass in one sweep. The first gear is very high as far as tractors go , the machine literally leaps forward before settling down .

I used a 4 foot slasher/brush hog behind my TEA20 for many years. I had it set up in such a way it would mow the lawns almost as good as a lawn mower!!!

Unless what you want to cut is virgin scrub, I slash in second gear, around 1,500 RPM. I suspect you will be able to do the same around your apple trees.

You will need either a "Zang Thang" type height controller or simpler yet, use chains to control the mow height.

I don't know about within the USA but world wide I don't think there is an after market part for a Fergy that is not available!!

This site or Sparex or BareCo agents/distributors in the USA should be able to supply any part you need.

Hi Bob, (Aust), a couple of weeks ago in our discussion about carb's for a 53 TEA, thanks for the advice. Carb was ordered on Monday, June 16/14 in Ontario and was delivered to my place in Nova Scotia on Wednesday, June 18/14, Zenith 24 T-2 Today I hope to install. Cheers, Murray

We have a lot of these tractors working with 5foot Bush Hogs in the USA. The engine should run at 1500rpm for correct PTO speed. Parts are available from this site (YTForum) and lots of others. The basic difference between the UK tractor and the US tractors is the engine. They imported them because there was a shortage of these tractors in the US. Using a Bush Hog, you need to set the hydraulics up as though you were using a conventional implement for Draft Control. If you need the information how to set it all, email me direct and I will send it to you and anything else that you may need. John(UK).. [email protected]
