A beautifully restored 40 was stolen last weekend in western Montana,it was in an enclosed trailer.Don't have ser.# or anything yet but could find out. This may not be the place to post this but never know when someone might see something suspicious. Thanks Ron

Did they take the trailer with the tractor in it? My cousin had his contractor enclosed trailer stolen, the trailer has a good market, so does the tools in it. yours didn't have dewalt power tools, I bet that's what they were thinking was in there. I really doubt they were eyeing your 40.

As many pictures as possible is going to help with results. Some people here can pick out mi-nute details that make yours 'different'-one of a kind.
Any pics that even accidently got the casting numbers in focus make the machine stuck to a particular time period that will match the serial number plate, which are too easy to remove. The Continental Motors plate has its own serial number, a pic of that is evidence for the state police too.
To carefully alter all this would take a lot of time, and actually ruin the valve of the tractor as a whole, they would have might as well stole pieces from a scrap yard.
I bet it will eventually show up in a parking lot. Too hot of a hot potato. Keep in touch and good luck!

Whoever stole it knew what was inside as they were getting ready to have an auction at this site. The sad part is the sale is to settle the estate of the owner who passed away all too soon.Ron

I can't speak for anyone but me, but personally I think it's a great idea to post stolen tractors and some identifying attributes. A lot of people on here look at tractors in person or in classifieds even if they aren't planning to buy another right now. You never know when they might stumble across something.

Of course, this doesn't work as well if the thieves search this site before trying to sell. Never publicly list all identifying characteristics so you don't give them a complete list of everything to change or remove.

On a related note, I've often wondered if I should paint up my 30 just a little odd to make it easier to identify should anyone ever steal it.

Two cops close to where I live stole a Kabota not knowing it had a tracking device.HA HA 40's down south are few and far between but there's news of stolen tractors on CL all the time.So sorry for your loss.
