Rear main seal.............

Hey guys. As I posted a few days ago, I am slowly doing an in frame overhaul on my TO 35 gas burner. I had some oil pump issues which you guys helped with, and with finding a good side over, that issue is all resolved. I have the pump and new main bearing back in. Also have the center main bearing replaced. My current questions regard the rear main and seal. (I am working without a manual since mine was recently lost or misplaced during a move.).....I want to put a new rear main bearing in, but am unsure what I am getting into with the seal. My gasket set has a large round seal which I know can only be installed with the tractor broken apart, which will not happen now. In looking up at the main, it appears to have a straight seal on each side. Is this correct? And can I simply replace these as I put the main cap back up ? I have also removed the 2 small bolts that point toward the flywheel, but not sure I understand what these are for....I guess the bottom line is that I want to have all new main bearings in it, but not at the risk of creating a back main leak. I would rather leave the old bearing in place than to create a new problem. Seeking all input and advice, lol Thanks, Ron

Lots of oil pressure problems are due to worn bearings which also wears the crank.I'd plasti gauge the new ones. If you don't have oil in the bellhousing your rope seals which run along both sides of rear main and that round one that goes on tranny side may be ok.Bite the bullet and get a manual, save doing it all over again.

That isn't a straight seal. It is rope packing that you have to pack in there on each side of the cap.

Rear seal has to be taken off with flywheel off. You will have to spilt tractor. The two small bolts inside engine holds seal retainer in. Also it has two bolts outside behind flywheel. Four in all. I have pictures I'll post. Also the seal has to be installed with lip to inside, or where you can see small spring in seal to inside engine.

Can't find pictures. If you do replace rear seal I'll take pictures from a extra engine if you need help. Most times this is where the oil comes from when you see a engine dripping oil.
