TE 20 Radiator Bolts

I have a replacement TE 20 radiator, the old radiator had the bolts welded to the radiator core frame, and the new radiator has slots that look like bolts slide in to be tightened down when attaching to the chassis radiator bracket. Because the old radiator had bolts that are not of the type that slide in to the new radiator, I have no way of knowing what type of bolts need to be used to reinstall the new radiator. does anyone have the specs for the bolts that they would like to share? I have a few manuels that do not mention what kind of bolts to use, in fact bolt & nut etc. information in these manuels seems to be sparse or nonexsistant, is there a better reference manuel (that includes bolt specs) that I could purchase that anyone knows about? I would like to stay as original as possible (size & type) when replacing the bolts to ensure safety.

I am guessing you need carriage bolts. My TE 20 parts book does not show any type of bolts in the bottom of radiator. I can only assume correct replacements should have had the bolts come with it. Measure it very carefully and if it is the same see if the carriage bolts will work.

(quoted from post at 09:25:13 06/11/14) Someone could have had problem with shoulder of bolt being rounded. Probably just welded them to keep from turning.

On my TO-20, the square slots in the radiator, AND the square shoulders on the carriage bolts were both pretty boogered up, and the bolts wanted to turn.

Fortunately, nobody had resorted to welding them, and I was able to get them out.

I just put the radiator back on last week, with new carriage bolts, and all went well. (I couldn't find NF thread carriage bolts, so I had to use NC.)

The bolts for the Radiator were welded into the Frame around the Radiator with nuts and rubber mounting pads below The Front axle carrier was slotted to take the Radiator Mounting bolts, so you slackened the nuts and slid the Radiator forward off the carrier. If the bolts have broken off, then you need to weld new studs onto the Radiator Frame.. John(UK)[email protected]

The original would have been special 7/16 carriage bolts. Don't think anyone makes them anymore. You might put the word out and find some originals, or sub 3/8 or 1/2 for them. If 1/2 will fit in the slot, that will be less likely to spin. Also be sure the head doesn't touch the bottom of the tank, might have to grind some off the top of the head to get clearance.

7/16" carriage bolts are still available. I buy them by the bag full because that is what hold the guards on a New Holland haybine. Although they are course thread.

Thanks to all!!!! I believe I will be able to obtain the carriage bolts just fine. I unfortunately will probably need to ask more questions in the future as I am a rookie when it comes to tractors. You guys are just awesome!!
